The Euphrates River is always associated in the minds of Iraq and this is normal because it is Mesopotamia, namely the Tigris and the Euphrates, but recently rumors have multiplied about the appearance of a mountain of gold in the Euphrates River, which is one of the signs of the Hour that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us about.

At the outset, before talking about the Euphrates River and the prophecy of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, about the receding water and the emergence of a mountain of gold from its depths, we must know the location of the river, its source, its course, its mouth, and what distinguishes it as well, and this is what we will address in the next lines.

The Euphrates River is one of the longest rivers in the Near East and its length is approximately 2,781 km, as it originates from the Taurus Mountains in Turkey, specifically from two small rivers in northeastern Anatolia and runs towards the west until it meets small-sized tributaries through Syria, which begins to enter from the city of "Jarablus" and takes on its way small-sized rivers such as the "Balikh" River and the "Khabur" River, and concludes its journey in Syrian territory at the city of "Albu Kamal". The gate of Anbar province is specifically from the city of "Al-Qaim" and passes through other Iraqi provinces and cities along Mesopotamia, such as "Babylon", "Karbala", "Najaf", "Diwaniyah", "Muthanna" and "Dhi Qar", and there the marshes are formed, and then it unites with the Tigris River to form together the Shatt al-Arab, which finally flows into the Arabian Gulf.
The marshes are a fertile area formed thanks to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, their sweetness and extreme fertility, and the bounties they carry with them through their course. It is mentioned from the inhabitants of the marshes itself that the place with its appearance and the culture of its inhabitants in building their homes, tools and fishing work is the same for thousands of years, inherited from father to son since the presence of the Sumerians in the region until the present day.
The Euphrates River was mentioned in the hadiths of the Prophet more than once, in which it was said that it is one of the rivers of Paradise, where it was mentioned in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Sihan, Jihan, the Euphrates and the Nile are all rivers of Paradise."
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Hour will not arise until the Euphrates is relieved of a mountain of gold on which people will be killed, and every hundred and ninety-nine will be killed.
In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The Euphrates is about to lose a treasure of gold. Whoever attends it will not take anything from it" the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) believed.
Despite the tendency of many people to talk in the past period about the appearance of one of the signs of the Resurrection that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us about when the water receded from the Euphrates River to show from within it a treasure or a mountain of gold. In fact, the receding waters of the river in the past periods is already real, but the gold treasures that the Holy Prophet talked about have not yet appeared, as the appearance of that amount of gold will entail people fighting and annihilating each other so that only one out of every hundred people remains.
Because of the dams that have been built along the course of the river, there are only three dams on it in Syria: the Euphrates Dam, the Freedom Dam and the Tishreen Dam. Turkey has also built five giant dams downstream, including the giant Ataturk Dam, so the river's water is constantly receding behind these dams, especially in periods when rainfall decreases in the year, such as summer.
The Euphrates River is one of God's gifts to His servants on earth, especially since it is one of the rivers about which it is said that they are rivers of Paradise, even if we do not know specifically the interpretation of this hadith, this gives it a different sanctity and position among the rest of the water bodies.
In addition to being a steadfast witness to many civilizations that have taken its banks as a stable, including the Assyrian and Babylonian civilizations, not only what we have mentioned is what gives the Euphrates River its beauty, but it also fascinates everyone who sees and visits it with its distinctive nature and fresh water.
