Tobermory, with its colourful waterfront, was chosen by the BBC as the location for the popular children's television series Palamaury. The houses are located in Tobermory except for Archie Castle which is now a hotel called the Fenton Tower in North Perrick and the nursery photos were taken in Glasgow. Please note that Josie Jump House is a small hotel called Park Lodge but the other accommodations are all private. It is not possible to take a look around any of the properties but most residents are happy to photograph children outside their homes. Please note that filming at Tobermory has been discontinued for many years now, but replays are regularly shown on BBC TV. Tobermory, on Mall Island, was chosen for the children's television program Palamori, because of its beautiful location and, most importantly, its multicolored houses. The theme of the program was based on what was happening in and around each colorful home. The series was shown on CBeebies and BBC1 and is probably best known for being one of the most popular educational TV shows for children of all time. Most of the series was filmed here in Tobermory, with the help of our nursery group, fire crew, attractions and local businesses. One of the main sights used in filming (season two) was the Mull Narrow Gauge Railway. The railway line was not at Tobermory itself, but near the ferry at Craignure, and ran between the ferry and Torosay Castle. Unfortunately, the railway line has been closed but it is still possible to walk along the old line.
